Best of Bucks 2016This year residents of Pine Run Community pursuing fitness goals had the chance to take part in a 2,000-mile virtual walk along the Appalachian Trail, all without leaving their home.

On Tuesdays, they can take classes with visiting professors, musicians or authors. And the food? Its tastiness is just another reason voters named Pine Run the Best of Bucks Mont in six categories.

“I have the notice of the ‘Best of’ awards right in front of me,” said Barbara Chierici, senior director of marketing for the over 65 community. “It’s consumer recognition, and we’re honored in all levels of living.”

Pine Run is celebrating 40 years this year and just finished a $31 million campus renovation that included new cottages, upgrades to its five-Star rated health center, a new dining deck and improved security for its residents in its memory care unit, she said.

Popular improvements also included “creating gathering spaces in the courtyards at Pine Run and Lakeview so neighbors can have parties or simply enjoy an evening outside.” They’ve also added a fishing dock at Pine Run and will soon be stocking a pond in the community. Chierici said Pine Run is a “haven for artists and gardeners.”

There’s a gardening club at Pine Run and Lakeview and some friendly competition when it comes to growing flowers and vegetables among the raised beds on the premises. Flowers are cut and used in the community center while many of the vegetables are used for specials in the dining venues, she said.

“Mostly they enjoy the pageantry of nature that’s here, seeing what their neighbors have been able to nurture and helping each other,” she said.

Indeed, those over 65 are more active today and Pine Run’s social calendar reflects that.

“Overall we have put such a bigger emphasis on holistic wellness,” said Chierici “We take into account physical health, but also intellectual and spiritual wellness.

We have a diverse slate of clubs and activities touching the arts, aquatics, continuing education, fitness and trips that reflect the talents and interests of our residents.”

Pine Run also hosts two events that are open to the public – a yearly art show for artists over 55 and a fall festival, which this year will be held on Oct. 1.

“I think families in Bucks County still want to be connected to their community. In Pine Run, residents are close to their Doylestown roots. And these events attract all generations,” she said.
