This Alzheimer’s Association fundraiser is representative of the summer solstice; and the longest amount of sunlight that day of the year. For those who have dementia – and their caregivers – every day is the longest day.
The Longest Day Fundraiser was observed throughout the entire Pine Run Continuum this year on June 21. Folks walked, bought cupcakes, danced, sold cookies, purchased lunches, and bought water ice to support the Alzheimer’s Association.
At Lakeview, we asked people to walk; sponsor a walker; or both. Residents, associates, and family members signed up for 15-minute time slots from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Even Arbor residents (memory care) went out several times during the day to support the walkers.
The afternoon was consumed by a dance party. Residents were out of their seats and in the aisles dancing with associates. There was a buzz throughout the building all day.
So far, Pine Run has raised about $3,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association; honored those with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers; and spread awareness throughout the Community.
