A Road Map to Recovery

Pine Run Therapy & Rehabilitation

“We’re going on a cruise in August and I’m determined not to bring my electric scooter,” says Irv Thompson, a Pine Run Villager, one week after total knee replacement surgery. Thompson is currently doing intensive physical therapy three days a week in his home to regain strength and balance. His motivation in therapy is “to be in less pain, to walk again without having to worry, and to be the best that I can be.”

Pine Run Retirement Community is focused on maximizing wellness for all of our residents. The Pine Run Rehabilitation Services Department, made up of a multidisciplinary team of physical, occupational, and speech therapists specifically trained in senior wellness, is dedicated to restoring, maintaining, and promoting not only optimal physical function but optimal wellness and fitness and quality of life as it relates to movement and health. Whether residing in Pine Run’s independent living cottages or apartments, our personal care residence, skilled nursing for a rehabilitation stay or long term care, or our memory care facility, all residents can benefit from the therapies offered.

Spring is in the Air and Our “New Normal” Takes Shape!

This Spring is a season of new beginnings, a season of hope, and a season of joy. With the COVID pandemic continuing to wane, life begins anew. We’re enjoying longer hours of daylight and the warmer temperatures. We’re meeting friends again, enjoying restaurants, our families, planning vacations, and adjusting to our “new normal.” Pine Run Villagers and Associates are excited by the possibilities! Villagers are hard at work once again booking trips to places as varied as the Barnes Museum and the Steel Stacks in Bethlehem. Movie night is back, Village Voices are singing, lifelong learning classes are underway, artists are gathering in the Craft Barn, dining options are expanding, Villagers are back to volunteering in the Health Center, Doylestown Hospital, and many other area nonprofits, and fitness programs are more popular than ever. For some of you it may be time to think about a move. We’ve received a lot of questions over the past several months about life at Pine Run during COVID. What happened? How did you keep your Villagers and residents safe but also keep their spirits up? Would I have benefitted by bring a part of this community during our darkest of lockdown days? And what is next?

Families Reunite at Pine Run as COVID Vaccination Restores In-Person Visits

Kate and Kay Smith enjoy a visit at Pine Run Lakeview

“It was a little more than one year ago that we did the unthinkable – Pine Run closed its doors to visitation in the Health Center, the Garden Memory Care and Lakeview Personal Care in response to the evolving COVID 19 pandemic,” said Maria Santangelo, Pine Run Executive Director. “We had never taken such a drastic step in our 45 year history. As senior care providers, we know that our residents thrive when families and visitors are with their loved ones. But as the pandemic was sweeping the country last March, we had to act fast to protect our most vulnerable residents, even if it meant separating families, spouses, partners, and friends.”

Spread Some Sunshine to Residents at Pine Run Retirement Community

Bucks County senior living community encourages children and the young at heart to brighten the day for seniors by sending cards, artwork and letters via email

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (March 2020): Nursing homes and personal care residences are restricting visitors in order to protect their vulnerable residents during the Coronavirus outbreak. For seniors, that means big changes to their daily routines, including the loss of visitors, time with loved ones, and social time.

Pine Run Retirement Community, one of Bucks County’s leading senior living and senior care providers, launched a social campaign to make it easier to stay in touch with residents. The new Spread Some Sunshine program aims to lighten moods and bring some smiles to the community’s seniors.

“It’s wonderful to see innovative ideas and creative solutions during this time,” said Pine Run’s Executive Director Maria Santangelo. “We are looking forward to seeing the creativity pour in and the joy that it brings to our residents.”

Spread Some Sunshine is an opportunity for children and the young at heart to get creative coloring, drawing or designing cards, artwork and letters to brighten the day of residents while visitation is restricted. All artwork needs to be submitted electronically – not mailed physically.

Photos and images can be sent to sunshine@pinerun.org. Items can be addressed to a specific resident by including their name in the subject of the email. Staff at Pine Run Retirement Community will print out all of the submissions and give them to residents, particularly those in its Health Center and Lakeview Personal Care residences.

For more information on the Spread Some Sunshine Program, please visit pinerun.org/spread-some-sunshine.
