Best of Bucks 2017 Clean Sweep

Best of Bucks 2017 Clean Sweep!

The Intelligencer

Success! The Best 2017
The Best of Bucks Mont is a list of our readers’ favorite businesses, products and services in the community. We believe the list represents how important local businesses are to the quality of Life here in our county. Readers literally cast a vote of appreciation for businesses in the community they find to be top-notch. Here’s how it worked:

  • Votes were cast in early summer
  • Online ballots listed categories

with space to type in favorite business names.
  • The independent certified public accounting firm, Kreischer Miller, tabulated the votes and validated the results for each category.

Pine Run Proud in the Garden

Pine Run Proud

in the Garden

Our team works very hard year round to make The Garden atop Pine Run’s Health Center a wonderful place for residents living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. Some of the professional highlights celebrated in recent months include:

  • A
    zero deficiency survey
completed by the Department of Human Services. The Garden has recorded excellent surprise inspection results over several years.

  • Vivid results for residents participating in interactive creative pursuits such as
    Art Without Boundaries
    and the
    My Music
programs. Resident paintings were exhibited at The ArtWalk at Doylestown Hospital.

  • Pine Run
    Angel Awards
honoring extraordinary “Good Deeds” were awarded to Maja Celo in Housekeeping and to Gus Munkenbeck in Nursing.

Lifelong pleasures continue to bring joy to
those who suffer from Alzheimer’s and related dementias. The Garden at Pine Run sets a personal stage where a resident’s particular interests, such as music and the arts, are celebrated.

Plan a family visit today.

Lakeview Carnival

Lakeview Carnival is a Slam Dunk

Lakeview Carnival
The smell of the funnel cake was enough to draw a crowd. Add to that a surge of summer weather, and a tickle of nostalgia, to create an unbeatable day for the afternoon CARNIVAL & FAMILY PICNIC held at Lakeview on Saturday, September 16th.

All generations stepped right up to try their luck at the dunking tank, duck pond, sand art, and other traditional amusements. “It was so much fun! My daughter Nancy won a goldfish bowl when she knocked the cans down with a bean bag,” said Lakeview resident Dot Rathgeb.

Lakeview Carnival

“I love to see everyone give themselves over to whimsy and joy during these events,” enthused Lakeview’s Director of Life Enrichment Maureen Riley, all suited up for the dunking tank. “I was happy to be a target for the kids, and before I knew it, ‘splish-splash I was taking a bath.’”

Dick Lambert, attending with daughters Peg and Jackie, thought the picnic was a great success. “There is nothing I prefer more than a ‘Hairy Dog’ – a hotdog with sauerkraut – and that was on the menu.”

Lakeview Carnival
Every event at Lakeview bears the creative imprint of the associates. From costumes to decorations, and of course, the gastronomical delights and table arrangements, the team really brings everyone together under the white tent for this annual party.

“Festive food is a regular treat at Lakeview,” says Senior Administrator Barbara Dumas. “Our Dining Director Sharon Smith knows the flavors everyone craves and she delivers according to theme. Plates were heaped with fried chicken and waffles, buttered corn on the cob, shrimp on a stick, and curly fries with vinegar. If folks had room for dessert today, they could help themselves to chocolate chip ice cream sandwiches or fruit salad in a waffle cone. Could a carnival be any better than that?”

The Garden

Art Without Boundaries

Art Without Boundaries
is an approach to retraining the brain using singing, movement, directed painting, storytelling, and praise that affects real change for participants coping with Alzheimer’s or other types of dementia.

It is an amazing experience to watch our residents in The Garden at Pine Run engage with marvelous instructors in the process of painting. Participants begin the session with visible hesitation, and by the end of class, they have become animated and joyful about producing a lovely work of art.

Pictured is Larry, age 81, connecting with instructor Terry Rosiak as they view a collection of sample paintings. Larry becomes more open and descriptive as he turns the pages – using words such as “juxtaposition” and “beauty” – and Terry encourages him to select the paintings he likes. He chose a painting of a mimosa tree that made him feel “peaceful.”

Larry is an experienced artist, and he gave great consideration to applying paint with a variety of brushes and sponges. She complimented his stippled flowers, saying, “You’ve got a good eye, Larry.” He said, “I enjoy working with a real artist,” and then, “if you are happy with me, I am happy with myself.” They laughed together when Terry suggested his painting could turn out to be as valued as a Picasso, and Larry, incredulously, said “It is far-fetched that it would sell for a million.”
